Helping Children Thrive: Discover the Power of Child Therapy

Does your child not seem like their normal self? Does your child seem to have big feelings they don’t know how to deal with? Does your child seem anxious or sad? Are you at a loss for how to help to them?

Child therapy, also known as child counseling or pediatric psychotherapy, is a specialized form of therapy aimed at helping children and adolescents address emotional, behavioral, and psychological challenges. It involves trained therapists who utilize various therapeutic techniques to support young individuals in understanding and managing their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.

Parents and caregivers seek child therapy to provide their children with professional support and guidance in navigating challenges that impact their emotional well-being, behavior, relationships, and overall development. Therapy offers a safe space for children to express themselves, learn coping skills, and build resilience under the guidance of trained therapists who specialize in child psychology and development. By addressing these challenges early on, therapy can help children and families manage difficulties effectively and promote healthier outcomes in the long term.

Child Therapy includes ages from (1 year old to 18 years old). Children younger than 1-year-old would be better supported by postpartum therapy and support for new parents

What Child Therapy Involves:

Therapists create a safe, confidential space where children can freely express their feelings without fear of judgment.

Therapy offers children another safe, trustworthy adult to support them and offer empathy and guidance (for children and parents!) during challenging times. Our therapists have special training so that they are able to offer experiences of boundaries and structure, as well as problem-solving for children and teens that is a bit easier to receive when not coming from moms or dads.

  • Play Therapy: Utilizes play as a means of communication and expression for younger children who may find it challenging to articulate their emotions verbally.
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors.
  • Family Therapy: Involves the entire family to improve communication and address relational issues that may impact the child’s well-being.
  • EMDR for Children & Teenagers: Involves guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to process stressful or traumatic experiences and reduce their impact.
  • Attachment Therapy & Theraplay: Utilizes the principles of attachment theory
  • to enhance the relationship between children and their caregivers
  • Circle of Security Parenting: Educates caregivers on responsive parenting techniques that promote secure attachment.

Benefits of Child Therapy:

At Thrive Therapy Houston, child therapy goes beyond addressing immediate concerns—it helps children develop essential skills for long-term emotional and behavioral well-being. Through tailored interventions, we support your child in managing emotions, improving relationships, and enhancing self-esteem, while also offering guidance to parents for continued support at home.
