Meet Lindsay McCarthy

The Official Stuff

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), which means I have specialized training in understanding relational dynamics and identifying patterns, whether it be your partner, family of origin, friendships, or any other kind of relationship. I received my M.S. in Human Development with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech, and completed my B.S. in Community, Family, and Addictive Services at the Texas Tech University.

I have been in private practice since 2016, and prior to private practice, I have worked in outpatient community clinics, inpatient substance abuse facility, and juvenile detention center. I’ve helped individuals, couples, and families through a wide range of issues such as anxiety and depression, family and life transitions, communication, feeling stuck, perinatal mood disorders, infidelity, exploring ethical nonmonogamy, suicidality and self-harm ideation, substance abuse, intergenerational trauma, abuse, and other complex trauma.

However, the best way I can describe my work is that I’ve helped people heal from the hurts they carry and experiences they have had to endure. I’ve witnessed and supported people finding hope again, in times that felt hopeless.  I’ve helped families and loved ones reconnect when life and relationships were dangling by a thread. I’ve walked with folks through the trenches and difficult times in their lives, finding our way to the other side, the side that felt like relief and peace.

What I love about this Work

It’s not lost on me that this work requires trust, and at the risk of sounding cheesy, it truly is an honor and privilege to come alongside clients and experience growth with them. I am privileged to witness client’s, not only in their deepest pain points, but in their greatest joys. I love hearing other’s stories and am always so inspired by client’s resiliency and vulnerability.

The Unofficial Stuff

When I am not in the office, I love spending time with my husband and our sweet black lab, who absolutely gets treated like a human. We love being by the water and take every opportunity we can to visit. I love to close my rings on my Apple Watch, typically in a group exercise class. You can often find me (and my dog) in the kitchen, not actually cooking, but supporting my husband’s love of it. Traveling with my friends and family is another great joy of mine and I feel so lucky to have visited some incredible places. Recently, I have been finding myself enjoying reading, which is a new and welcomed hobby. More specifically, I have loved reading non-fiction and memoirs… I assume because I love hearing people’s stories.
